I'm sitting here with Form N9 - Tenant's Notice to Terminate Tenancy - in front of me, all filled out and ready to go. Do I sign it, and go through the whole moving process? If I move to the area I'd like to, I'll be farther away from work, but in a much better neighbourhood.

My current landlord is being pretty insistent that I sign a new one-year lease when my rent increase comes up in May, and I really don't want to. I know I don't have to sign, but they're also saying that they've applied for a larger increase than the standard 2%, and I think they'll get it. However, the fact that they've done considerable upgrades to the public areas doesn't change the fact that my the people in my building do things like let their dogs use the stairwell as a bathroom on cold days.

The very thought of having to look for a new place, though? It's giving me knots in my stomach. I Hate change.

Decisions, decisions. I'm probably going to pass in the notice with my rent cheque tomorrow. Here's hoping I don't chicken out a the last minute. *g*

Moving is icky, but it appears that I'm committed to doing it now. *g* My notice went in with my rent cheque this morning.

I just keep telling myself I'll be happier in a neighbourhood I can feel at home in.

Hey, way to go! This will definitely increase your happiness (and mine!) in the long term, despite the short term searching and moving ickiness. So when do we start looking at apartments? *g*

I'm guessing either this weekend or next week/weekend. Not having a place to live in 2 months is a little stressful - everything else can work itself out, y'know?

And, I'd appreciate any help you wish to offer on the "searching for a new place" front. *g*

Moving totally sucks.

OTOH, my last landlord raised the rent more than 10%, then raised it again less than a year later (he claimed that the second time was because the utilities went up). He wasn't a horrible landlord (especially compared to the one before him), but I'm glad I don't live there anymore.

My landlord isn't truly horrible - they're hard to get ahold of, if you actually work, but given that most of the building's residents are families with stay-at-home moms, they probably don't really see the need for the office to be open evening and weekends.

I just want to live somewhere where I don't have to get in my car and drive if I wanna do something, y'know? If I'm gonna be living in Toronto, I might as well live in Toronto. *g*

I couldn't afford anywhere with things I could walk to (because we were looking to buy, and do without the whole landlord thing altogether), but I'm happy that I can now take transit when the weather is crappy. Although the bus home from the subway leaving only every half hour could be better.

Back in April of last year (http://www.livejournal.com/users/carynb/17854.html) you were contemplating moving downtown. I assume that you didn't do it then, but you are doing it now?

Right. I'm actually planning to move back downtown to a place that will hopefully not be more expensive, and let me live in a neighbourhood where I can walk to stuff. I think I'll be happier there.

Of course you will be happier. And look at it this way. I get to sleep in because I won't have to be out of the house so early to catch a ride with you. Sorry just a bit of selfishness. If you need the number to my land lady let me know.
