Great show last night, even if the audience was a little weird, in spots.

M & I met up with [livejournal.com profile] mycrazyhair, [profile] srfsports, and some their co-workers, partway through the first of the two opening acts, Seether. I'd never heard of them before, but I thought they were pretty good, for the three or four songs that I heard.

Next up was Finger 11, who I'd at least heard of before. Again, I thought they were pretty good. I knew a couple of their songs, and had fun bopping along with them.

Finally, Evanescense! They didn't disappoint, at all. Amy Lee's voice was great, like I was hoping it would be. You've got to wonder how she can do this, night after night, and still sounds so good. Not to mention the breath control - she was dancing, and jumping around, and still holding those notes. Anyway, highlights for me were My Immortal, Tourniquet, Bring me to Life (of course!), and Whisper. I think they played everything off of Fallen, plus one old song, one Soundgarden cover, and two new songs. The second of these, called either I Bleed or I Breathe (I think), I really liked.

Yeah, lots of fun. There was one weird point, though - just before they did the last song of the main set, Amy said "This is the last song of the night", and people started to leave. Granted, they'd already done all of the singles, but still. When they finished the song, there was a mass exodus towards the doors. I don't know if it's because it was an all-ages show, and there were a number of young (like 10-12 years old) people there, but it was like nobody wanted an encore. So we clapped and cheered a little louder, and eventually they came out and did Whisper. At that point, some people started back towards the stage again, but it was really strange. We were standing there, looking at all these people leaving, and wondering if they'd never been to a rock concert before. The last song of the main set is never the last song, after all.

Oh, and Arrow Hall is an awful place for a concert. The sound was okay, but the sight lines are terrible. The floor is just plain oncrete, and standing on it became painful after a few hours.

Anyway, a good night. I'm certainly glad that I went.

Good review, Caryn.

I was actually quite surprised how much I liked Seether, and soon after I remarked to Christina how much they evoked Nirvana, they played Rape Me and pulled it off quite well. I am a big Finger Eleven fan and they were excellent as always (further away than normal though :-)

I really liked Evanescence as well although Amy's voice would be even better appreciated at a smaller venue. They finished the set off really strong and Whisper was the perfect choice for the encore (even if not everyone cared enough to stay for it).

We ended up getting out of the parking lot very quickly (under 5 min.) so that was cool too. How long did it take you to get out?

By the time we got to the car, the lot had pretty much cleared out. We were straight on the road, and then back here by shortly after 11. No problem at all, really. Which was a little unexpected, given the state of the parking lot, but I'm certainly not going to complain :-)
