I really enjoyed Carmen on Friday night. The soprano playing Carmen (Larissa Kostiuk) had an amazing voice. Which, I guess, is to be expected. I was less impressed with the tenor playing Don José (Atilla B. Kiss) - he was occasionally drowned out by the orchestra, so I'm guessing his voice wasn't in top shape. Reading the surtitles while watching the action was a little more difficult than watching a movie with subtitle, but I would imagine that's just because I'm not used to it.

As for the actual opera, I would imagine the general reaction of someone seeing it in the 1870s would have been a little different than mine - they would have been "That Carmen, what a slut", where my reaction is "Don José - what a jealous, controlling, stalkerish boyfriend - run, Carmen, run!". The difference in social mores a century makes, eh?

Definitely an enjoyable evening (mostly, anyway) for me. M was quite ill, though - all feverish, achy and tired. He went with me, but he missed a fair bit of it, "resting his eyes." He was feeling better by late Saturday, so I guess we just hit really bad timing on it. We'll have to plan to attend another performance sometime, so he can get the whole effect.

There were a number of other good things this weekend. Or at least, other Finally! things happened. I managed to go over to Richie's Couture and take a look at one of the bridesmaids' gowns that my sister would like. I loved the style of it - it has a very flattering shape, with a sideways gather at the waist, so it'll forgive a lot of figure flaws. They were really busy though, and a customer looking for a single bridesmaids dress wasn't someone they wanted to spend a lot of time on when there's entire bridal parties to be outfitted, so I'll head back there one night next week and try to find the other dress she'd like me to look at. She sent us the information back in August, wanting our input on which dress we should wear, so this was definitely a Finally! sort of a thing.

In the "M's the bestest boyfriend" category, he spent some time this afternoon drilling holes in the drapery rod hangers so that he could actually get them attached to the wall the way I wanted. So, I now have a drapery rod in the main room. I've even cut all 8 drapery panels to the length I need for hemming, and will hopefully get them up this week. Finally! I can't wait to get rid of the paper shades I had up "temporarily"!

Saturday morning I finished ripping my CD collection to my hard drive. Yay! It only took my 6 months. 25G of music, almost 5000 songs, all on my hard drive. Now I just need an mp3 player big enough to hold it all. Apple store, here I come...

And finally, I started knitting the last sleeve for my Rogue sweater last night. I've spent the last week and a half working on my Clapotis scarf/wrap, hoping to have it ready for last Friday. I didn't quite make it - I'm about 2/3 of the way done - so I switched back to the Rogue, since I'll be able to use it once it's finished. So I now have 3 projects in the mostly-done stage, the Clapotis, the Rogue, and [livejournal.com profile] crystal_diva's afghan. Hopefully, I'll get one of them finished this week. Truthfully, though, I think hemming the drapes is gonna have to take priority in my crafting time for the week.

It's actually been a very productive weekend, so far. I think tonight's for relaxing. *g*
