Stargate: Atlantis - Trinity
Aug. 23rd, 2005 08:47 amSo, I watched the latest Stargate: Atlantis episode last night, and I'm left with one thing.
I really, really want to see the apology scene between MacKay & Zelenka. Rodney's toss-away line about having apologized to him just isn't enough.
This is how fanfic writers get started, isn't it? I can see how the scene would start - there would have to be coffee, from the secret stash of good stuff that you know Rodney's got. And there would have to be much, much grovelling. But I've really got nothing else. I think I might have to try, though...

Or, it could be because Zelenka's one of my favorite characters on the show, and Rodney was just vicious with him. Calling Zelenka too stupid to understand, especially when Zelenka turned out to be the one that was right? ...
Heh. That has happened before, hasn't it? I think it was the viciousness in Rodney that got me this time. He's always short and impatient with people, but he really stepped waaaay over the line, this time.
And, Yeah, I'm occasionally bothered by the stuck-up Canadian stuff, too. But mostly with Rodney, it's actually "smartest person in the room" arrogance that has nothing to do with his being Canadian.

Date: 2005-08-23 01:54 pm (UTC)As for Rodney being way over the line, it was... Interesting. I seem to be using that word a lot today :) He was very much affected by the death of Collins, and has been pushed not into overconfidence, but into a conviction that he *has* to succeed, to make Collins' death meaningful.
What I find unbelievable is his attitude afterwards, during the argument in Weare's office. Frankly, I've always found his character to be the less consistent and believable of all.

Besides, it lets them have Rodney take pot-shots at American death penalty and gun-control politics, which I'm always in favour of. *g*

I hated the character on SG1 but now I can accept and appreciate him for the intelligent person that he is being made out to be. As with most supper smart people they feel the need to influence others to their own ideals and that they are always right even when they are wrong. I think we are going to see a strong change in the character over the next few shows.
