Okay, now sad is it that I'm seriously considering changing banks, just so that I can get a free iPod shuffle? I don't even particularly want the Shuffle - not being able to pick your playlist is not exactly a selling point, for me - but I figure a free shuffle will keep me from spending $400-$500 on a 20G iPod, sometime in the next few weeks. I keep looking at them, and I'm getting closer and closer to justifying buying one...

I want something for the gym, and something easier to carry than my cd player for walking (since I'm doing a lot more walking) and, well, I guess I just want a new toy. *g*

So, I'm possibly switching to TD Canada Trust in the next few weeks. *g* I just have to go figure out their service charges and stuff like that...

does it have to be an iPod?

for that money, you can get the 40G Nomad Zen from Creative, which *does* let you manage your own playlists. just something to think about. iPod's got the online services cornered, but really, if you want something you can rip your existing music collection onto, or download onto, the Zen's got all the features you could want, and twice the HD space, for the same price.

Well, the larger iPods do have all the regular playlist management stuff on them, which is one reason why I'd buy it. I won't actually buy the iShuffle at ~$150, because of the lack of playlist control. But if it was free? I could live with it. *g* I already use iTunes for managing my music (most of my collection has already been converted to mp3), so the iPod family just makes sense, for me. I think the 40G iPod one runs about $450, before taxes, so the pricing isn't that out of whack.

The main advantage of the free iShuffle is that it would keep me from spending several hundred dollars that's supposed to be going into my "Downpayment for a condo/house someday" fund on a new toy...

I have to say, an iPod Shuffle is a lot better than a toaster. I believe you can turn off the shuffle and it will play the tunes sequentially (although it may require some tricks to control the sequence; iTunes might do it automatically). Even with a 1Gb iPod you won't be storing your complete music collection, just load it up with a reasonable mix and press next track if you don't like what it picked.

I have to say that I was also tempted by TD's offer. But PC Financial is really good as a basic chequing account. Zero fees for normal banking stuff (a buck for the printed account statement versus online) and PC points for buying groceries at Loblaws (bonuses if you use their purple bins).

Heh. Much better. I mean, I wasn't really looking to move, but the free iShuffle really is tempting...

Your Palm can play MP3s and you can buy any size memory card for a fraction of the price.

Well, true. But I've tried it, and the sound quality is crap, the battery only last a couple of hours, tops (probably not even that long), and a Palm is in no way convenient for working out with, unless I want to wear a belt and get a big belt attachment thingy. So, no, the Palm does not work for me as an mp3 player.

And, I don't even have the choice... I wish they'd bribe existing customers to stay... hm... maybe if I leave, then come back?

Heh. You can always try it. Somehow, I doubt it'll work, though. *g*

I've been with Canada Trust for the last few years, and find them no worse than other banks. Some of their locations are open till 8:00 pm, which is definitely handy.

OTOH, you might want to consider an ipod mini: much less spendy than the regular ipod, and more space and functions than the shuffle.
