Step 1, complete
Apr. 25th, 2005 11:14 amAll I have left to do at the old apartment is drop off my keys. I left behind two things - a storage rack for the storage room, and a bathroom stand in the bathroom. Both are things I can no longer use, and both should be very usable by whoever moves in, so I don't think there will be a problem.
I'm in the first apartment in my new place, and I have come to the conclusion that I have just too much stuff. As things stand right now, I don't think I could actually put anything away if I wanted to, because there's not enough room to load up the media towers or bookcases, for instance. I'm pretty sure I may have to do more culling as I unpack.
I think on Saturday, we'll just move the big stuff and some of the boxes. the only way I'll be able to organize is if I unpack as I get the boxes, so getting the boxes into the apartment may be a piecemeal process. We'll see - if I can get most of the kitchen stuff out of the way, I may be fine for the rest of the boxes. I can hope, anyway.
"How much stuff can I have?" you ask? The move to here to half again as long as expected, primarily because of the approximately 90 boxes involved in the move. 90 boxes. In a one bedroom apartment. Yeah, I'm gonna have to get rid of more stuff. I think I"ll have to be utterly ruthless - if I haven't found a spot for something by the end of May, it's going. Books, media, candles, mugs, knickknacks, whatever - if it doesn't have a spot, I'll get rid of it.
Now, I wonder if I can keep to that resolution...

Date: 2005-04-25 03:47 pm (UTC)You should try moving about in my apartment. It's crazy. I mean, a lot of these are books and DVD type things, which will go fairly easily into the bookcases and/or media towers. But the rest? I'm gonna have to be ruthless. I'm not having boxes stacked in a corner for the next X years. I wanna be living in a real place, not in a storage area.
Obviously, I'm going to have to prioritize a lot on what I want to keep.

Date: 2005-04-25 05:03 pm (UTC)Knick-knacks are the biggest problem. I have more candleholders than an Amish family in a four bedroom house.....they are my weakness. :-(
