Last night was the big night of premieres, with 4 shows I wanted to catch.

There were a number of things about this season premiere of Smallville that I liked, but topping the list, by far, is Erica Durance's Lois. She was snarky, she was smart, and she had great chemistry with Tom Welling. I can't wait to see what kind of sparks she strikes with Michael Rosenbaum.

Other good things were naked!Clark, shirtless!Lex (heh. yes, I am that shallow), Kal-el's flying, and Margot Kidder. Lines like Lois' "Give me a big geek in glasses anyday" just made me giggle.

At 9, I caught Veronica Mars. Wow. This is one critics favorite that I can totally get behind. Kirsten Bell was amazing. The scene where Veronica tells us about how she'd lost her virginity? Totally rocked. The whole girl detective-noir thing that was going on with the detective agency was really well done. I just hope the writers/producers already know who killed Lilly Kane, and the show doesn't end up in Twin-Peaks plotting hell.

Then, it was CSI:NY. I figured I'd give this a shot, but I wasn't overly impressed. I'll give it a few weeks, though, to see if the cast meshes a little. There was one really nice bit, though - the speech about how Taylor had kept the beach ball, because it held it's wife's breath. That was good.

The references to 9/11 seem...cheap to me, somehow. I'm not sure why - anyone working in New York that day in emergency services would have been effected, so it wasn't truly gratuitous. I think maybe it's a little too early for "strongly affected by 9/11" to have become the same sort of stock character that "disenfranchised Vietnam Vet" was 15 years ago.

Best show of the night? Veronica Mars, hands down. Hence, my new icon. *g* The pilot's being replayed on UPN Friday at 9, and Sunday at 10, if anyone wants to check it out.

Unfortunately, I missed Lost, which I've been looking forward to. I tried taping the West coast feed, but the Cable Box/VCR combo went glitchy. Urg. If I'd just waited the couple of minutes after the end of CSI:NY the make sure the VCR cut in, I woulda been okay. Oh well, I guess that's what BitTorrent is for.

Cool. Oddly enough, I haven't watched any new TV at all. Hey, wasn't Gilmore Girls on last night? What happened there?

Actually, I watched it on Tuesday night. It was quite good. Luke & Lorelei were very cute, being all insecure about each other, but that ended well. Luke bought a cell phone so that he could call her - in Luke terms, that's the truest declaration of love possible!

Rory & Lorelei had a huge blowout fight about Dean, and for the pretty much the first time ever, aren't communicating at all. The best scene of the show, though was probably Richard and Emily finally having a real argument.

Anyway, Emily and Rory have taken off for a summer in Europe (following Rory's realization that she is, indeed, the other woman). I imagine next week's show will pick up a couple of months later.
