Great Big Sea
Feb. 27th, 2004 11:50 amGreat concert last night.
The opening was someone I'd never really heard of before, although I did recognize one of the songs he played. His name was Danny Michel, and I really liked his set. It was just him and his guitar, which made listening to the lyrics easy. His songs all had this wry humour to them that I really liked. So, that's an album I'll probably pick up eventually.
Then, on to the main show! Lots of fun, like I knew it would be. They opened with Excursion Round the Bay - their usual closer - and had the crowd dancing and singing along pretty much instantly. They played a fair bit of stuff off their new album, but they peppered the show with older stuff, too. I can't think of anything I really wanted to hear that they didn't do. It was an almost two hour long show, and I (and pretty much all of the audience, actually) spent the whole two hours dancing and singing along. It was neat, looking up towards the stage (we were about 2/3 of the way back), and seeing just about everybody in front of us moving.
Great show - it was just so high energy, and with so much audience involvement. That's one of the good things about seeing them, especially in a small venue. They reach out, and make sure that the audience is feeding off the energy in the place as much as they are. So much fun.
