Torchwood, Yum!  I think I'm gonna have to make a "fights like a girl" userpic for Gwen, 'cause she kicks ass  Watching this in full HD was really, really pretty, but I kept getting distracted by Eve Myles' freckles.  I didn't know she had any, before this. *g*

Day One
There were lots of things I liked about the episode.  Rakesh was seriously cute, and Gwen-as-Torchwood-Recruiting-Officer was even cuter.

I liked the glimpses into Jack and Ianto's homelives.  My heart broke, a little, for Jack, though.  His daughter not wanting to tell her child the real relationship with Jack because she looked older than Jack did was just sad.  Although, she obviously knows him well, since she immediately twigged to the ulterior motive for the visit.

Ianto's sister, on the other hand, I just loved.  I loved the gossipyness of her inquiries into Ianto's lovelife.  I loved that she kept pushing him on it, and when he finally admitted, that yes, he was dating a man, she just accepted it, really.

As for the A-plot - the kids were just seriously creepy, Frobisher was screwed, and the only problem I had was with the idea that someone with the level of security clearance that Ms. Spears would give her passwords to someone she had met 10 minutes ago. I know, 'twas an emergency, but still!  I would think that not giving out your password that gives you access to top-level state secrets would be ingrained in, at that point.  I liked Rhys pointing out the fact that the timing as well as the language was geared to Britain, something that Torchwood had missed - or at least, hadn't quite noticed yet. He's getting closer to just being a member of the team.

I am really, really curious about who the 456 are, and what happened, exactly, to those children in Scotland 40 years ago. And why whatever happened then is damning enough that they have to blow up the Hub as the only possible way to kill Jack. I guess Frobisher didn't actually read all the files on Jack, or he'd know that Torchwood recruited Jack because he couldn't die, and not the other way around.

Day Two
And, more and more plotiness! I was on the edge of my seat for most of this one, actually. I still have no idea who or what the 456 are, although it seems likely that they're nitrogen-breathers at the very least. I am making the assumption that the tank is for them, and it does seem that they want to communicate and not just blow us up, but it's still very confusing. I have a bad feeling about the head scientist, though.

Random notes:
Alice just broke my heart.

Lois Habibi rocks. She's in a seriously tough place - she thinks she's working for the good guys, but all her instincts are telling her that Torchwood are the good guys, and the people she's working for need them gone. I did like what it came down to, for her - "I didn't sign the Official Secrets Act to be a party to murder".

Rhys has his priorities straight. He needs food. *g*

Frobisher's kids were cute - *WE WANT A PONY WE WANT A PONY* Hee!

And Ianto's sister and her family were also great. I love that her husband never even questioned her helping Ianto. For all that Ianto and his sister may not have a dream childhood, they are solid.

Jack's rewakening was creepy, but burying Jack in concrete? That's seriously uncool, and he's gotta be starting to get a real complex about being buried alive. Bonus for the high-def naked John Barrowman, though! *g*

I think I cheered when Ianto broke Jack out, and I know I laughed when Jack just carried Gwen's coat back to the car instead of putting it on. *g*

Doing one story over 5 nights allows them to really ratchet up both the creepiness factor of the happenings, and the excitement of the story. I'm really enjoying it, and I hope I can get a chance to watch Day 3 tonight.
