I went up to the site in Stouffville on Friday, since there was a rumour floatin' around that the builders were gonna start on my side of the street late last week. The good news? They have dug the holes (I have a hole in the ground! woo-hoo!).

I kinda can't believe they've actually begun the thing!

I was so, so excited when I saw that they'd actually begun the work. So I climbed down into the hole to take a look, and what did I find? Bad news, of course. Sigh. They didn't dig the hole wide enough!

They couldn't fit in the framing to accommodate the jog in the back for the fireplace. They poured three sides and around the corners in the back, added some rebar, and left it. So I have to talk to the Customer Service people tomorrow to make sure that the rest of the footing will be poured, and soon. I've spoken to Dad about the rebar, and he believes that the rebar will add enough strength to the join that the fact the it wasn't a single pour of concrete shouldn't be an issue. At least that means all I have to be concerned about is delays. I was ready to insist they pull it all up and do it again, but he believes that is unnecessary.

Then on to the weird. *g* I wandered around Main Street Stouffville for a while afterward and was completely freaked out by the fact that I could park in spots on Main Street, and there was no meter. I parked the car and looked around for a place to pay, and there was none. Parking on Main Street is free. Freaks me out, for some reason. A little bit of culture shock, I guess. *g*

So cool! And it's great that you have an authority you trust to tell you that you don't need to worry. Yay!
