Hey, that was fun!

I just spent an hour and a half out cross-country skiing. I've never done it before, and I was pleasantly surprised by how fun it was. I went Splat! seven times (I think), which is less than once every 10 minutes. I don't think that's too bad, for a rank beginner.

I wish I could say that I got better as the day went on, but the most spectatular of the splat!s happened as we were approaching the chalet to return our skis and leave. I felt myself falling forward and tried to tuck-and-roll. That may work in gymnastics, but when you've got planks attached to your feet? The roll doesn't work so well. *g*

Anyway, it was fun. I'll definitely be doing it again. It was undoubtedly the best workout I've had in a long, long while, and it was enjoyable. *g*

Living in Canada, it's about time I tried some outdoor winter sports. If I can find something I like, then maybe I won't hate winter. Now, if I can just find the time to try snowboarding...

Yeah, I was falling on the soft snow. There's been enough snowfall over the last few weeks that there was lots of padding there. *g*

The only really bad part of falling down was getting snow in my jeans...

Snowboarding can be fun. Just make sure you rent decent equipment, including boots, from a place that does snowboards (versus has a few, but mostly does skis) and then take a lesson.


Even after several years of not being on the hill, I know I can get a pair of skis and go. But if get on a board I need that refresher or I'm going to fall hard, lots.

Yeah, I figure the lessons would be a necessity. We were looking at going up to Blue Mountain (or one of the resort in Collingwood area) for a weekend and renting from there, which should work out okay, I think. I don't know if we'll actually manage to do that this winter, though.
