Loukoumendes!
Aug. 7th, 2004 05:17 pmOr, reason #278 why I love living in Toronto: Taste of the Danforth. I love this festival, and I happen to think the BIA for Danforth has to be one of the smartest groups in the country. They've turned a smallish strip of the street (3 subway stops long) into a destination that will probably see over 1,000,000 visitors this weekend.
So, we went down last night before the crowds got completely insane. Mike & I met up with
mycrazyhair and then wandered the street for a while. Had some food, and then went looking for the aforementioned loukoumendes, or honey balls. Deep fried honey, coated in more honey - the sugar rush is amazing, and those little things are why I go down there year after year.
The mix of foods is amazing (I actually ate chicken fajitas on a pita), and I think this is another one of those things that point out how very well the different cultures in Toronto mix. Even though the area is known for being Greek, the foods available were hardly confined to the traditional Greek foods. But they better keep serving those loukoumendes...
