There are times when I love this city.
Given that two of the times are coinciding this week, I think it should be a good weekend. *g*
First and foremost, it's Pride weekend. I love the way this city embraces Pride. I love the fact that entire downtown core will be shut down pretty much all day tomorrow, and that everyone will be in such a good, friendly mood. Most of the stores on Yonge Street will have rainbow flags displayed, and there's just such an accepting tone to everything. Sure, some of that is the tourist dollars at work, but I really don't think that's the driving force.
For all it's problems, I think Toronto is a city were diversity - of orientation, of religion, of culture, of most everything - is just an accepted part of our fabric.
I love it here.
I'll be at the parade tomorrow with my camera, so hopefully, I'll have so samples of the diversity at work to put up tomorrow night .*g*

Date: 2004-06-26 07:01 am (UTC)So, this week, where St. Clair was closed down to celebrate Portugal's quarterfinal win in the Eurocup on Thursday, and then the Danforth last night to celebrate Greece's win yesterday - I love the energy in those neighborhoods, and the way no-one really gets pissed off about it, just accounts for the closures and works it into their schedules.
Again, it's all about the diversity *g*
