So, I am pretty much unreachable by phone (well, outside of work, anyway) right now. I have two phones in my apartment, neither of which is working. One will allow me to make calls out, but if I leave it plugged into the wall no one can call me - as soon as the phone starts to ring, the line goes dead. The other is cordless, and the handset was deader than a doornail last night. I could get it a new battery, but given than I bought it a new $35 battery about 4 months ago, I think I'd rather get a new phone. It's about 10 years old, so it's not like it hasn't had use.

To top it off, the latch holding my cell phone battery in place broke off last weekend, so my cell is hardly ever actually on, either. Like I said, getting me by phone is difficult right now.

So, I'm in the market for a relatively inexpensive ($50-$75 range, preferably) cordless phone that has good sound quality. Anyone have any recommendations? I could just wander through Future Shop until I find one I like, but I hate not being able to tell if the sound quality and range are any good beforehand.

I went with Uniden - I find the quality of the product very high overall, especially the sound quality of their phones.

I bought mine at Costco.ca, speicfically the:

UnidenĀ® TCX905A
5.8 GHz DSS Cordless Handset

At the time (last year), Costco was offering two for $100. Right now, they've got one for $59.99. I have the two in my house and I'm very pleased with them.

I've had good luck with Uniden phones. We have a few and no issues.

yeah, the last Uniden cordless I owned was a first generation phone made in 1987. That phone lasted me until 2006. The only reason I couldn't keep the phone is because I could not find a battery for it. Lord knows I tried.

Thanks! I'll make a trip to Costco this afternoon and see what they have in stock here.

(I don't think I've ever actually heard of Uniden before - I just knew I didn't want to get a VTech.)

I'm very impressed that I found you last night. Sadly, I have no helpful suggestions.
