What to do, what to do

So, I got home last night, and found an unexpected cheque for $600 in my mailbox. I knew there was some possibility that I would get some of that money, but I certainly wasn't expecting all of it, and I certainly wasn't expecting it now. It was kinda sitting in the back of my brain as maybe, someday...

Anyway, I now have $600 burning a hole in my pocket. If I'd gotten the cheque two weeks ago, it would have gone straight into my RRSP fund, so I'm kinda glad I didn't get it then. Spending it is so much more fun. Do I go buy the iPod I've been jonesin' for for months? Do I finally get myself a PDA? A digital camera? Or do I do the sensible thing, and buy a new set of tires for my car? I wasn't expecting to buy them until the fall, since winter's almost over and I've gotten through this year. I also need some brake work done, but I'd been budgeting for that, so it should be covered.

Decisions, decisions. The iPod would take up all the money and then some, since I'd also need a new hard drive in order to finish putting all my music in digital format. A 20G iPod is about $550 dollars, so just adding the taxes will take me over the budget.

I could quite possibly get the tires and the digital camera. Sensible and frivolous all at the same time, maybe that's the way to go...

Y'know, they actually will accept money for RRSPs in months that don't start with F, right?

Go for the digital camera. *g*

I love ipod's. But I think a digital camera is actually a very practical thing.

And even in Canada they should be under $300 for a decent one. So get a camera, and something else :)

Yes, I know that. But February's the only month where I'd feel guilty about using the money for something else. :-D

Go for the digital camera.
I'm leaning that way. There's a pretty good Kodak one on sale at CostCo this week, actually. But I'll probably get one of the cute little Canons instead. What do you think of this one (http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/proddetail.asp?logon=&langid=EN&dept=14&WLBS=fsweb14&sku_id=0665000FS10035022&catid=&newdeptid=14)?

Well it's definitely very pretty. But I don't know enough about digital cameras to have an informed opinion. Have you checked the reviews?

Yeah, I'm really starting to lean that way. I have this tendency to take pictures, but not get them developed, and over the years I've stopped taking them because I never see them. A digital camera gives the instant gratification necessary to keep the picture-taking going :-) And, you're right, it shouldn't use all the money. Maybe I'll pick up the West Wing Season 1 DVD's while I'm at it.

Come to Ad Astra, or were you planning that already?

Well, I've sent in my pre-reg for the weekend, but I haven't booked a hotel room. I'll probably be there for Friday, Saturday morning, and maybe late Sunday. So, I'll be around, and I'll hit the Friday night parties. Hopefully, I'll see everyone then :-)
